Disaster can strike any business, anywhere, any time. Yet only few organizations have comprehensive disaster recovery plans (less than one third according to western European surveys, in Poland only a negligible percentage of organizations have BCPs).
Business continuity planning is fundamental to the well-being - and even survival - of an organization. Effective business continuity and disaster recovery plans are essential for mission critical operational functions and support services including IT and telecommunications services.
The legislature and regulators have also recognized the importance of business continuity planning by issuing a number of laws and regulations requiring risk assessments and business continuity plans. Obviously, planning for crises that do not occur every day is not straightforward. The creation and maintenance of a sound business continuity plan is a complex undertaking involving a series of well considered steps.
